SELLING POINTS

This helps for the reader reports, but is particularly useful for the AI/Sales sheet. "Unique selling points" or USPs are directed to the readers and booksellers. What will make a reader want to buy your book? What is new and different about it? How does the book stand out from the competition? What problems will it help them solve, or what does it add to the sum of knowledge? What is the angle?

A USP would be, for instance: "This is the first book on the market to cover the recent findings that IQ levels relate directly to earlobe sizes." For fiction, USP might be breaking new ground in style, content or genre. Or it might be set somewhere the reader might visit or in situations they might find themselves. Avoid hyperbole and being too general. If you tell us that your title raises the bar for business books, why is this so?

Please give three bullet points that are:

  • Succinct and with high impact.
  • Motivating and concrete.
  • In third person.

Do not use soft, inexact adjectives. Do not raise points that beg a question. This will be edited, and included with other information on your title and presented on one sheet (AI) to time-pressed trade buyers, so the clearer you make it the more we can help.
