Emma M. Jones

Emma M. Jones

Emma M. Jones was born in Dublin in 1974. She grew up there and in the more arid environs of Libya and Saudi Arabia.

Emma produced outdoor arts events for ten years. Returning to university as a 'mature' student in 2006, at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, she developed her addiction to archival research. The book Parched City was born out of a collision between her interest in architectural history and contemporary urban environmental matters. Emma was already engaged with the latter subject through public art as artists were naturally responding to the climate change zeitgeist in their own work. Researching Parched City led Emma into new research territories, not least medical history and a job editing modern medical history publication at Queen Mary University of London (funded by the Wellcome Trust). Emma lives with her partner Grace Chapman, who is a film-maker, and their two children.
