David Detmer

David Detmer is a Professor of Philosophy at Purdue University Northwest. He is the author of Freedom as a Value (Open Court: 1988; winner of the Choice "Outstanding Academic Books" award in philosophy), Challenging Postmodernism: Philosophy and the Politics of Truth (Humanity Books: 2003), Sartre Explained (Open Court: 2008), and Phenomenology Explained (Open Court: 2013), as well as articles and book chapters on such topics as Sartre, vegetarianism, the Beatles, Rorty, the death penalty, Baudrillard, Woody Allen, the U.S, mass media, Habermas, Husserl, U.S. foreign policy, modern art, existentialism, Gadamer, Ricoeur, Heidegger, Nietzsche, phenomenology, and virtue-based epistemology. He is a past President of the North American Sartre Society, and is currently Executive Editor of the journal Sartre Studies International.
