Colin Stanley

Colin Stanley was born in Topsham, Devon, UK in 1952. He was educated at Exmouth School and for several years worked for Devon Library Services before moving to the East Midlands, where he became a librarian at the University of Nottingham. He now works from home as a freelance writer and as Managing Editor of Paupers' Press. He first became interested in the work of Colin Wilson in 1970 after reading his major novel Ritual In the Dark, and in the 1980s became his bibliographer and one of his publishers. In 1986 he edited a collection of essays to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Wilson's iconic philosophical masterpiece The Outsider. This was published in 1988 by Cecil Woolf Publishers as Colin Wilson, a Celebration: Essays and Recollections.
Colin Stanley has written two novels, First Novel (2000) and Novel 2 (2005) and a volume of nonsense verse Sense-less (2003). He also edits the series Colin Wilson Studies which features extended essays on Wilson's work by scholars worldwide. He edited the festschrift for Wilson's 80th birthday in 2011 Around the Outsider published by 0-Books.
Colin Stanley's massive collection of Wilson's work has just been acquired by the University of Nottingham and will form the basis of a major archive. It is anticipated that this will increase his standing in the academic world, particularly in the UK.
